Leather
can be imitated in many colors, but popular choices are red or brown.
At right are three examples, the top one also with a mitered border
of faux tortoise shell. For a wilder look, try the elephant hide,
or "safari" finish. In natural coloration, this gives
the effect of the animal's skin, but can be adapted to any color
scheme and works beautifully with metallics for formal areas.
Rare
or costly woods can be reproduced by the faux artisan, as shown
in this inlay effect featuring two very different types of graining.
Consider faux wood effects to match trim or furnishings, or to add
warmth to metal doors and other "institutional" building
materials.
