The Old World Imprint is one of many available on canvas, to which faux
plaster and cracked varnish are applied for an authentic antique
look. Inexpensive art prints are another way to make an area look
aged, as this Tuscan plaster sample over "Night With Her Train of
Stars," by Edward Robert Hughes.
Lincrusta
is a brand of heavy wallcovering that lends itself beautifully to
faux finishing, as in this sample, "Italian Renaissance," done in
gold with multiple layers of glazing to accentuate its deep relief
pattern.
It is still imported from England, where it has been made since
Victorian times. There are only a handful of patterns available in
Lincrusta, but endless color and glaze combinations
are possible. A related but lighter weight paper, Anaglypta, comes
in a greater variety of designs and may be treated
in the same manner. |
