My name is Jan Mueller and I'd like to give you some background
about my company, Carolina Faux, Inc.
I have lived in Columbia, South Carolina since 1989. The idea of
starting a faux finishing business began several years ago when I
taught myself decorative marbling and applied it to the mantels and
niches in my 30's-era Melrose Heights duplex. From there, I worked
my way up to walls and revived junk furniture whenever the
opportunity arose. After hearing numerous comments that I should "do
this for a living," I decided to research the possibilities.
In October 2001, I attended my first faux finishing class in
Louisville, Kentucky, instructed by
Martin Alan Hirsch. The materials and techniques I discovered in
that week were all I needed to put my business plan into high gear.
In January of 2002, I incorporated my business. I began marketing my
services, sold the duplex to raise funds, and in August 2002, left
my "day job" in graphic design in order to concentrate on developing
Carolina Faux.
A lifelong talent and interest in all types of art and crafts, and
26 years of experience in the graphic design field are assets that I
draw on to create unique finishes as well as produce the newest
in-demand looks. I am particularly excited about adding murals to my
repertoire as I have always enjoyed painting landscapes and skies.
I live in the St. Andrews/Irmo area with my husband Andy, and a
house full of furry "children." I am originally from
Greensboro, North Carolina.
